Asian Games 2023, India medal tally: Indian athletes win 107 medals for highest haul ever; full list of winners at Hangzhou 2022

The Indian contingent won 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals to finish its campaign at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. This is the nation’s biggest-ever haul in a single edition of the quadrennial showpiece.

Indian women’s chess team also bags a silver medal. D Harika, R Vaishali, Vantika Agrawal and Savitha Shri, all won their matches in their round nine tie against Republic of Korea.

Indian men’s chess team wins silver. Vidit, Arjun and Harikrishna P won their respective Round 9 matches against Philippines. Iran takes gold.

Yazdani scores the first point against Deepak with a ‘push out.’ Deepak concedes another point in the same manner and also receives a caution this time. He will now lay in a passive position. Chance for Yazdani to score some more points but he is unable to flip the Indian.

Yazdani is racing towards the gold medal as he takes an 8-0 lead.

Yazdani takes down Deepak but luckily for the Indian, the round ends just before the move could count.

But the relief does not last long as Yazdani takes him down in the first 30 seconds of the second round to stretch his lead to 10-0 and defend his gold medal via technical superiority.

India’s Deepak Punia lost to Iran’s Hassan Yazdanicharati via technical superiority 10-0 in the men’s 86kg freestyle final to bag silver at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou on Saturday.

Asian Games 2023: Indian women’s hockey team beats Japan to win bronze medal

Indian women’s hockey team defeated Japan 2-1 to win bronze medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.

Naveen gets away with the final point and the whistle goes off. The men’s kabaddi team wins the gold amid extraordinary circumstances (33-29). You have to feel for the young Iranians. Some of them are still protesting but the game is done and dusted.

Asian Games 2023: India wins gold in men’s kabaddi, beats Iran in controversial final

India clinched yet another gold at the ongoing Asian Games after its men’s kabaddi team defeated Iran 33-29 in the final in Hangzhou on Saturday.

As per the new IKF (International Kabaddi Federation) rule, India has been given three points and Iran receives one point.

– With just over a minute remaining in the match, Pawan Sehrawat from the Indian team was forced to go in for a do-or-die raid.

– During his raid, Pawan went out of bounds without making contact with any Iranian defender.

– In response, Amirhossein Bastami and three other Iranian defenders rushed towards Pawan in an attempt to push him out.

– This led to a moment of confusion, as it was unclear whether Pawan had been successfully tackled or not.

– Initially, Iran was awarded a point for their efforts to stop Pawan.

– However, the Indian contingent, including players and officials, began arguing with the on-court umpire and the TV officials.

– After further review and perhaps another referral, the officials decided to award four points to India. It’s mentioned that the number of points could vary depending on the number of players who went out with Pawan.

– This decision led to protests from the Iranian team.

– The final decision seems to be based on both old and new rules. According to the old rule, India would get four (or possibly five) points, while the new rule would give one point to each team because one of the Iranian defenders (Bastami) went out of the line (self-out).

The match has been called off due to rain. While everyone here would’ve wanted a full game, I don’t think India would be the one to complain. The men’s team completes the set, as was expected. The women’s team had won the gold before.

The referees are trying to play peacemakers but nobody is willing to listen. The players sit like a rock on the mat even as the coaches continue to be in conversation. The match has been suspended until further notice.

So Iran will get a point in defence, but Pawan says he went out of bounds without any touch, which means India might get a few points as Iran’s defenders also went out with him. After a 10-minute long referral, India is awarded FOUR points but Iran is protesting it.

India staged an extraordinary comeback, after trailing 1-2 to take the game 3-2 in the end to win the classification match against Hong Kong, China. Final score: 25-18, 18-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-9

Rakibul Hasan’s last ball four sealed the deal for Bangladesh in the bronze medal cricket match against Pakistan. The game was truncated to just five overs due to rain interuptions.

Pakistan managed to score 48 in its quota of five overs and Bangladesh had a huge task in hand, needing 65 to win in 5 overs. Powered by Afif Hossain and Yasir Ali’s partnership, Bangladesh scraped through in the last minute to clinch bronze

India’s Sai Samhita Akula is currently leading the pack with 32.69 points to her name. Closely followed by Korea’s Seowoo Shin, who has 31.59. Akula’s compatriot Greeshma Dontara is placed third with 28.70 point

Meanwhile, two other Indians, Vicky and Sumit lost their qualification rounds and bowed out of the tournament.

India’s Aditi Swami won bronze medal in the women’s individual compound archery event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.

The Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had a miserable 0-8 record against the Malaysian pair until June 2023, but have now managed to beat them in their last two meetings since.
